REACH - response

REACH

Registration Evaluation Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals

March 2010

There are different roles of suppliers under REACH which are determined by the activity they carry out with a substance. We understood Sekisui Jushi, a processing manufacturer, is classified as a “Producer of Articles” or “Downstream User” under categories designated by REACH, and the role in this category can be understood to manage the risks posed by chemicals contaminated in the articles or uses of chemicals in the process of making such articles. Downstream users must communicate information on dangerous substances and preparations down the supply chain through so called Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

We also make a note that under REACH, polymers which are the main component of our strapping products are exempted from regulation. There are few other types of filler or additives within our products, however, those plastic materials are recognized as preparations (the polymer part, residual monomer, additives, etc.). Under REACH preparations, do not need to be registered separately. Only the substances used on their own are subject to registration obligations.

We are confident that no Sekisui Jushi strapping products contain Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) as listed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) under the provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the council concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals and updated 13 January 2010 by ECHA European Chemicals Agency:

Yours faithfully,
